The Premise
Physically, Earth operates as a closed system with finite life-support capacity, carrying eight billion passengers with no external resupply mission on the horizon. Yet human behavior on the ground often reflects a stark disconnect from this reality—tolerating systemic inequalities, interpersonal violence, and environmental neglect that undermine the well-being of the collective home.
Kim’s Log is an ongoing series of observations on this condition. It proceeds from the principle that environmental collapse and social conflict are rarely caused by a lack of data; they stem from a breakdown in human awareness, empathy, and the quiet recognition that our existence is inherently shared.
The Underlying Principle: We share a single vessel with limited resources. Keeping it habitable requires active care, honest examination, and a higher level of personal and collective consciousness.
Background & Lens
Kim’s path to documentary filmmaking developed through technical and executive disciplines. He initially studied Engineering at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) before earning a degree in Business Administration at Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU).
Over a twenty-five-year career, he worked in international business development and strategy, including roles at PwC and Daimler-Benz Aerospace, alongside scaling technology ventures across Israel, Europe, and Brazil. Raised between Germany and São Paulo, and having lived for years in Israel, he operates across four languages. Living in diverse cultural environments provided a direct, first-hand view of how different societies manage conflict, community resilience, and governance structures.
His technical approach to direction is grounded in professional portrait photography, combining visual narrative with direct execution across key stages of production, from scriptwriting to color grading in DaVinci Resolve.
Cinema as a Practical Tool
For Kandler, impact cinema is not an exercise in commercial escapism, but a practical instrument for social transformation. Independent film production demands more than artistic intent; it requires operational discipline, sustainable financial structures, and the capability to execute complex projects without relying on traditional industry gatekeepers.
Through his filmmaking—including co-founding the independent studio 3F Films alongside actor and creative director Marianna Lourenço—he focuses on investigative documentaries that address systemic social issues, such as domestic violence and human rights.
Supported by fiscal sponsorship through From The Heart Productions in Los Angeles, this work operates under a clear framework: understanding an issue is the prerequisite for caring, and caring is the only force that compels a society to repair what is broken.
